1. | Goals of the foundation Chinese Language curriculum: | ||
1.1 | Develop visual and auditory perception skills, eye-hand coordination and gross motor skills, as well as the knowledge and an understanding of symbols and sounds. | ||
1.2 | Through the use of spoken and written language, and non-verbal /non-written communication, students are able to enhance their communication skills, express their own ideas/emotions and understand others’ feelings. | ||
1.3 | Develop basic Chinese Language skills so that students can possess practical Chinese Language skills and have a successful integration into society. | ||
1.4 | Through the learning of Chinese Language, expand and broaden students’ knowledge, raise their motivation in learning, and develop their aesthetic sensitivity. | ||
1.5 | Through the use of Chinese Language materials, develop good attitudes, habits, moral values and social awareness. | ||
1.6 | Develop thinking, problem-solving and independent learning skills, and | ||
1.7 | Enrich students’ knowledge about the Chinese culture and literature. | ||
2. | Goals of the Senior Secondary Chinese Language curriculum: | ||
2.1 | Providing a rich and diverse Chinese Language-learning environment to help students build a broad knowledge base, receive an in-depth learning experience and achieve quality language learning. | ||
2.2 | Build competence in all Chinese Language skills, for example, comprehension, expression, communication and the use of language skills. | ||
2.3 | Through the use of diverse learning materials, develop students’ aesthetic skills. | ||
2.4 | Enhance students’ thinking and independent language learning skills, and | ||
2.5 | Through learning the Chinese Language, develop students’ knowledge and appreciation of the traditional Chinese culture, broaden their international perspectives and develop a respect for other cultures. | ||
3. | Overall goals of the Chinese Language curriculum: | ||
3.1 Enhance students’ everyday communication skills by strengthening their ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing. On the other hand, the curriculum puts an emphasis on raising students’ interest in the learning of the Chinese Language, nurturing a positive learning attitude, good learning habits, creative thinking, positive moral values, and a sense of responsibility towards the society. | |||
3.2 Enhance students’ ability in understanding, expressing, communicating and using Chinese in daily life in order to help them do their best and improve their ability to learn and live independently and prepare for future life and development. |
