The Cantonese Reading Workshop for Parents[2024.04.11]

The Cantonese Reading Workshop for Parents invited Ms Chiu, an educational psychologist, to introduce the concept and results of the CRAFT Integrated Intervention Model and Communication App 3.0 for students with autism and limited verbal ability. She showed some videos of some successful cases with students communicating and learning through typing. We also invited Dr. Lau Chaak Ming from the Education University of Hong Kong to present “Hambaanglaang Cantonese”, an open materials and software database for SEN students and Cantonese learners, including Jyutping storybooks, graded scales, videos, software and conversational practices. Dr. Lau further recommended TypeDuck and LearnDuck apps, which help students with special needs to type to communicate and learn. Parents could also learn from the resources and encourage their children to communicate, thereby increasing their interaction with others. In the end, the parents brought home with a Jyutping dictionary and a set of storybooks to try out with their children at home.
